Mrs. Emily Warhurst
If you've made it to this point, you're apparently wondering who your teacher is, or, if you're a parent, you might be wondering what type of person is teaching your child. Well, my name is Emily Warhurst, and this is my fourth year at Arlington High School. Previously, I taught at DeSoto Central High School in Southaven, MS (12th and 9th grade standard English).
I graduated form the University of Mississippi (Hotty Toddy) in 2013 with a degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English. While at Ole Miss, I student taught and observed at Oxford High School (12th traditional and 11th grade AP English). I was also placed at Coffeeville Middle and High School, observing 7th and 10th grade English. Last, but not least, I was at New Albany Middle School in an 8th grade classroom. You can say I have covered all areas of my certification now that I am teaching 10th and 11th grade English at Arlington High School. While at Ole Miss, I also helped with Leap Frog (school tutoring for underprivileged homes) and volunteered for many other charitable foundations. I am a native of the Memphis area, attending St. Benedict at Auburndale from kindergarten to graduation. I played sports throughout my school years, but when I hit high school, I found my love for bowling. I bowled all 4 years in high school, along with winning the state championship every year, was a coach at my first teaching job (we made it to state as a first year team), and now I am the assistant bowling coach here at AHS. As early as the fourth grade, I knew I wanted to be an English teacher. I did not come from a family of teachers. I was in a resource class because I tended to write letters other than B and D backwards. I was tested for everything under the sun and did not have an explanation for why I was turning things around in my head. I only had 12 other classmates in this grade. Being in this smaller, more concentrated class was amazing for me. I was able to accelerate and help those who were struggling. My teacher made the comment that I would make a great teacher some day because I break down the process and explain thoroughly. This has stuck with me throughout life. I take what I do very seriously, and I am proud to be an educator. I also really enjoy working with this age group as I feel I’m still young enough to connect but, old enough to share valuable advice with them as they get ready to enter into the “real world”. Upon accepting my teaching position at Arlington High School, I also signed on to assist with the bowling team and Beta Club. I really look forward to working with all of my students, whether they are in the classroom, in a club, or a bowler. Thus far, the ride has been amazing, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds. In my spare time I like spending time with family and friends, going to Ole Miss Football games, Grizzlies basketball games, or Redbirds baseball games. I still actively bowl and love it! It’s a sport you never have to give up. I enjoy going to the Memphis Zoo, concerts, movies, and trying new restaurants (suggestions always welcome). I am a huge animal lover. I have a two Yorkies named Bentley and Eli, an orange cat named Tigger, a Siamese cat named Gracie, and a HUGE goldfish named Sushi(because he just keeps growing). My parents also have pets- we live in an animal world!! |
